Child Safeguarding and Protection Policy

The Bermuda Taekwondo Federation (BTF) is committed to safeguarding the welfare of children and young people who participate in Taekwondo activities. This policy outlines our commitment to creating a safe and positive environment for all children and young people and our procedures for preventing and responding to any safeguarding concerns.

 

Policy Statement

The BTF is committed to:

  • Ensuring that the welfare of children and young people is paramount in all Taekwondo activities.

  • Providing a safe and positive environment for all children and young people who participate in Taekwondo activities.

  • Preventing any harm, abuse, or neglect of children and young people.

  • Responding to any safeguarding concerns in a timely, sensitive, and appropriate manner.

  • Providing appropriate support and guidance to those who raise concerns or who have been affected by harm, abuse, or neglect.

Responsibilities

All BTF members are responsible for safeguarding the welfare of children and young people who participate in Taekwondo activities. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Reporting any safeguarding concerns to the BTF Safeguarding Officer or to the relevant authorities.

  • Adhering to the BTF Code of Conduct for Adults.

  • Completing relevant training and education on child safeguarding and protection.

  • Following the BTF's procedures for responding to safeguarding concerns.

Procedures

The BTF has procedures in place for responding to safeguarding concerns. These procedures include:

  • Designating a BTF Safeguarding Officer who is responsible for overseeing the implementation of this policy and for responding to safeguarding concerns.

  • Ensuring that all BTF members are aware of this policy and their responsibilities under it.

  • Requiring all BTF members to undergo a background check and to provide references.

  • Providing appropriate training and education on child safeguarding and protection.

  • Ensuring that all Taekwondo activities are conducted in a safe and appropriate manner, with appropriate risk assessments and safety measures in place.

  • Responding to any safeguarding concerns in a timely, sensitive, and appropriate manner, with a clear and documented process for reporting, investigating, and resolving concerns.

  • Ensuring that confidentiality is maintained throughout the safeguarding process, except where disclosure is necessary to protect a child or young person from harm.

Reporting Concerns

Any concerns about the welfare of a child or young person who participates in BTF activities should be reported immediately to the BTF Safeguarding Officer or to the relevant authorities. The BTF Safeguarding Officer will investigate the concern and take appropriate action, which may include reporting the concern to the relevant authorities.

Review

This policy will be reviewed regularly to ensure that it remains up-to-date and reflects best practices in child safeguarding and protection.

BTF Code of Conduct for Adults

The Bermuda Taekwondo Federation (BTF) expects all adults involved in Taekwondo activities to adhere to the following Code of Conduct:

  1. Conduct yourself in a responsible and appropriate manner at all times when participating in Taekwondo activities.

  2. Ensure that the welfare and safety of all participants are paramount in all Taekwondo activities.

  3. Respect the rights, dignity, and worth of all participants, regardless of their age, gender, race, religion, or ability.

  4. Do not engage in any behavior that could be construed as harassment, bullying, or discrimination.

  5. Comply with all BTF policies and procedures, including those related to safeguarding and protection of children and young people.

  6. Do not use inappropriate language or behavior that could be offensive or discriminatory.

  7. Maintain a high standard of personal conduct, including avoiding the use of illegal drugs or alcohol when participating in Taekwondo activities.

  8. Do not engage in any conduct that could be detrimental to the reputation or interests of the BTF or the sport of Taekwondo in Bermuda.

  9. Do not engage in slander or defamation of character, as this behavior is not acceptable under any circumstances and will not be tolerated by the BTF.

Slander & Defamation of Character

The Bermuda Taekwondo Federation has a no-tolerance approach to slander and defamation of character. Any allegations of slander or defamation of character made against any adult involved in Taekwondo activities will be taken seriously and investigated thoroughly. Any individual found to have engaged in such behavior may face disciplinary action, up to and including expulsion from the BTF and/or criminal charges.

All BTF members are expected to report any incidents of slander or defamation of character immediately to the BTF Safeguarding Officer or to the relevant authorities. The BTF Safeguarding Officer will investigate the allegation and take appropriate action in accordance with the BTF's policies and procedures.

All members of the BTF are expected to uphold the highest standards of conduct and to behave in a manner that reflects positively on the BTF and the sport of Taekwondo in Bermuda.
